Our Vision for the future...

The Louisiana Airport Authority was created by Act 508 of the 1992 Regular Legislative Session for the specific purpose of securing a site and contructing a new state-of-the-art, Intermodal Transportation Center/International Airport between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The Louisiana Intermodal Transportation Center (LITC) envisioned by the Louisiana Airport Authority (LAA) is a very large, multi-modal facility designed primarily to meet the transportation and distribution requirements of our new economy. It will be designed, built and operated thru a public/private partnership.

Speed and competition are hallmarks of the new economy. Consumers are demanding fast, reliable and low cost transportation for goods purchased over the Internet, business is looking for new ways to drive down inventory and transportation costs, and the growth of e-commerce is stimulating global sourcing and international trade. To meet these new demands, firms are developing a new generation of large distribution centers that feature highly efficient material handling systems and offer access to time-definte air, truck and rail intermodal services, including waterborne commodities.

The LITC is designed to provide a Greenfield location to meet emerging distribution and the industrial development that is likely to occur on site. These new needs cannot be met by redeveloping or expanding any existing facilities in Louisiana. If the LITC is not built-Louisiana businesses and residents will have to rely on out-of-state facilities to meet many of their distribution and intermodal transportation needs. Louisiana needs to develop the LITC to participate fully in the future growth of intermodal freight transportation and Internet-related distribution activities.

The primary objective of the LITC is to accommodate new water, air and surface freight traffic that is being generated by the rapid growth in e-commerce and by other changes in the distribution and logistics industries that are increasing the demand for time-definite transportation services.

The LTC has created a video for the project outlining many of the ideas and features that will be prominent. This video is approximately 90MB and is recommended for a broadband connection.
